The site is to the immediate west of the existing graveyard of Bodenstown that contains National Monuments Bodenstown Church (KD14-041001-) and graveyard (KD14-041002-). An archaeological test excavation under Ministerial Consent was undertaken following a geophysical survey under detection licence 13R1.
A total of nine test trenches were excavated. A single site of archaeological interest was identified corresponding to potential archaeology detected in the geophysical survey. This comprised a horseshoe-shaped curvilinear feature, F.1, enclosing an area of c. 4m x 3.2m and may represent the outline of a structure. The fill of the feature contained charcoal, extensive charcoal staining and occasional animal bone inclusions. No evidence for spill-over of burials from the cemetery was identified. The identified archaeology was covered with plastic sheeting and all the test trenches were backfilled.
