A total of twelve test trenches were excavated across the site, targeted to investigate anomalies identified in a geophysical report (18R0028) undertaken by Joanna Leigh. Geophysical survey identified 7 potential archaeological features. Excavation proceeded in level spits of 0.2m. The spoil excavated from the test-trenches was spread out and scanned with a metal detector (18R0086) to enhance finds retrieval. Finds included bolts, tin foil, bottle tops and machine parts. As none were of an archaeological nature they were discarded. Topsoil was quite uniform, 0.25-0.35m in depth across the area; subsoil was mixed grey and brown boulder clay with occasional patches of sand and gravel. Several modern linear features, representing drains or plough furrows, were identified in the test trenches. No evidence for archaeological features or material was identified.
