Licensed archaeological monitoring of several different works undertaken by the Water Services Section of Kerry County Council in the townland of Letter West at Mountain Stage near Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry took place in April/May 2018. The proposed works extends for c.0.55km running north-wst/south-east through the townland. The works consisted: removal of mounds of previously excavated material around reservoir, laying a drainage pipe between the reservoir site and existing drain, fencing a boundary of site, changing valves and fence in existing river inlet, and partially cleaning existing drain.
The townland of Letter West contains 55 recorded rock art sites. All boulders and bigger stones found during works were hand-cleaned and checked for presence of rock art. Nothing of archaeological interest was found during monitoring.
