Monitoring of site investigation works associated with the construction of a wind farm at Toberatooreen in North Kerry and excavation of possible hearth feature found by the author during testing in 2013 (Licence No. 12E423) was undertaken in July 2018. The initial 2013 interpretation of the feature as a burnt event or hearth was based on the fact that the test cutting bisected the linear ditch at the precise point where the burnt material was most manifest and prevalent. This excavation revealed that the burnt material comprised introduced fill from a burning event that occurred elsewhere that was deposited in the ditch sometime in the post-medieval/early modern period. The linear feature is interpreted as the remains of an old destroyed field boundary that is denoted on the 1st Ed. OS 6” map of 1841. No artefacts were found.
