Test excavation was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct a solar farm at Knockeenalicka and Knockeenduff townlands, Killarney Co. Kerry. Testing took place over four days in March 2018. Fifty-three test trenches (T1 to T53) were incrementally opened with a 13-ton back-acting track machine using a 2m wide flat grading bucket. The subsurface outer ditch of ringfort KE058-096 was revealed in test trenches T13 and T14. Two parallel linear boundary features were found in T19 south of the redundant record, formerly enclosure KE058-431. They correspond to the field boundary on the OS historic maps. A small previously unknown feature interpreted as a pit was identified in test trench T21. The feature was fully excavated. Outside the limits of the bivallate ringfort KE058-095 one trench, T50, was opened to determine the potential of a multi-vallation but no previously unknown sub-surface activity associated with the ringfort was found.

Nothing of archaeological interest was recorded in any of the other test trenches.
