Testing was undertaken on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland as part of Stage (i) Test Excavation & Survey Services for the proposed Kerry, Cork and Clare Bridge Rehabilitation Scheme in advance of works on the N72 Beheenagh Bridge near Barraduff in Co. Kerry. Beheenagh Bridge is a Recorded Monument (KE068-120); however, it is not scheduled for inclusion in the next revision of the Record of Monuments and Places.
A total of three test trenches with a total accumulated length of 60 linear metres were excavated in greenfield areas in the environs of Beheenagh Bridge, in the townlands of Readrinagh and Kilquane. The trenches were 1.8 m wide and excavated by a 13-tonne track machine utilising a flat grading bucket, down to the top of the underlying natural subsoil. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were encountered in any of the three trenches.
