Testing was undertaken on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland as part of Stage (i) Test Excavation & Survey Services for the proposed Kerry, Cork and Clare Bridge Rehabilitation Scheme in advance of works on the N70 Ballynamona Upper Bridge near Castlemaine in Co. Kerry. A total of three test trenches with a total accumulated length of 65 linear metres were excavated in greenfield areas in the environs of Ballynamona Upper Bridge, in the townlands of Ardatedaun and Ballyraymeen Upper. The trenches were 1.8 m wide and excavated by a 13-tonne track machine utilising a flat grading bucket, down to the top of the underlying natural subsoil. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were encountered in any of the three trenches.
