An archaeological assessment was carried identifying two banks possibly associated with the recorded monument (GA97:104 - a castle and moated site ) located to the SE of the development. One of these banks was much denuded and located running parallel to the existing road. The second bank was located in the middle of the site, in the area of the dwelling house. Testing of the banks revealed the first to be natural and the second bank comprised of stone and earth, measuring 0.80m in height and 1.30m in width. Following recommendations from the National Monuments, the bank in the area of the dwelling house (12.80m in length) was fully excavated. The bank came down onto the light brown clay. It contained no artefacts, providing no evidence for dating or understanding the function of the bank. Monitoring of the excavations throughout the site revealed no features and or artefacts of archaeological significance. The stratigraphy encountered consisted of sod and topsoil, overlying a light brown clay which overlay a gravel layer.
