An archaeological excavation was undertaken at Plot 85.01, in the townland Corralongford, County Fermanagh, as part of the Gas to the West project. A total of 30 discrete features were identified and investigated across the site, of these, eight was considered to be of archaeological significance. The archaeological features identified was 4 liner features [c.32], [c.33], [c.34], [c.57] and 8 pits [c.05], [c.07], [c.08], [c.14], [c.18], [c.20], [c.22], [c.48].
Linear feature [c.32] was orientated north-east to south-west, measured 31.2m in length (width of the stripped area), 1.1m in width and 0.32m in depth and contained a single fill (c.45). Linear feature [c.33], 12m north-east of [c.32], orientated north-west to south-east, measured approximately 19m length (width of the stripped area), 1.28m width and 0.52m depth and a single fill (c.42). Linear feature [c.34] located approximately 0.5m south-west of [c.33], orientated north-west to south-east, running parallel with [c.33]. It measured 19m length (width of the stripped area), 1.8m width and 0.59m depth and contained a single fill (c.43). Linear feature [c.57] was orientated north-east to south-west, measured 4m in length, 1m in width and 0.1m in depth and contained a single fill (c.58).
Pit [c.05], measured 0.29m diameter and 0.1m in depth and contained two fills basal fill (c.47) and upper fill (c.46).
Pit [c.07] measured 0.47m diameter and 0.28m in depth and contained four fills: (c.54), (c.53) (c.52) and (c.51).
Pit [c.14] was oblong in plan, orientated east to west, it measured 0.75m in length, 0.64m in width and 0.09m in depth and contained two fills: basal fill (c.59) and upper fill (c.50).
Pit [c.18] was oval in plan, it measured 0.7m in length, 0.65m in width and 0.1m in depth. It contained a single fill (c.49) and may represent the remains of a tuyère, possible meatal working.
Pit [c.20] was sub-circular in plan, it measured 0.62m in diameter and 0.12m depth, it contained a single fill (c.44). This was a mottled orange sandy silt of moderate compaction containing moderate burned bone, charcoal and burned stone inclusions. This deposit was 100% sampled.
Pit [c.22] was oval in plan, measured 1.7m in length, 0.7m in width and 0.13m depth and contained a single fill (c.65).
Post-excavation works are ongoing.
