The works at Castle Coole required the archaeologically monitored excavation of a single continuous trench 0.3m wide by 1.1km through the estate grounds. This narrow line of invasive works facilitated a 4-inch diameter pipe for a BT fibre-optic cable running from the Twin gate lodges to the main Castle Coole house. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the course of the works. The excavation was carried out under Scheduled Monument Consent due to the proximity of the 18th-century Formal Garden of Castle Coole (FER 211:082).
