Archaeological monitoring of re-development works at No. 8 Dawson Street took place as conditioned (Condition 7) by the grant of planning, DCC ref. 3389/12. Monitoring of the works took place intermittently between July 2018 and March 2019. The monitored works comprised the excavation of pits either side of all of the openings into the basements of No. 8 and the YMCA Hall, in order to reinforce and underpin these opes, the excavation of trenches to install services and drainage beneath the entire development’s footprint and the excavation to facilitate the construction of a water storage tank beneath the YMCA Hall.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered on site.
