Monitoring was undertaken of ground works at 76 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin in response to a condition of planning from Dublin City Council (Planning Ref.: DSDZ3864/14). It follows on from a programme of testing undertaken by Faith Bailey and Paul Duffy in September 2015 (Licence 15E0371).
The northern part of the development area is located within the zone of archaeological notification for Dublin City (DU018-020). Whilst there are no recorded monuments located within this zone that occupies the development area, Sir John Rogerson’s Quay wall is a recorded monument (DU018-020201) and is located c. 20m north of the development area.
Monitoring of ground disturbance was undertaken in two stages, between June and August 2017 and between February and May 2018. It revealed reclamation deposits to a depth of up to 3m across the site. Throughout the monitoring works a large amount of modern pottery, stoneware and redbrick was identified.
Whilst the fragmented remains of some post-medieval structures were recorded, no features of archaeological significance were identified.
