Excavations are ongoing at a settlement/cemetery site at Scholarstown Road, Knocklyon, Co. Dublin. The site was identified following geophysical survey (18R0112; J Nichols) and test excavation (18E0458; A. O’Connell). It consists of a c.50m north-south by 45m earth-cut enclosure with internal burials. To date, excavation has focused on the enclosure ditch which is 1.8-2.3m wide by 1.5m deep. Only a small portion of the enclosure interior has been excavated. However, a series of pits and post-holes on the south-west enclosure interior may indicate the presence of a structure. A single burial has been excavated. Excavations will continue in January 2019 and focus on the remaining human burials.
