Development involved demolition of structures at 8-14 Old Naas Road Cottages in order to provide for the construction of 85 residential units. The development is located on a site measuring c. 0.523 hectares.
Brick from the recently demolished cottages was salvaged for reuse by construction staff. These bricks were mainly yellow clay and displayed “Dolphins Barn”, indicating they were fired by the Dolphins Barn Brick Company. Red clay bricks displaying “Kingscourt Brick & Terracotta Works” were also salvaged for reuse.
Construction works commenced in the northern end of the site and progressed southwards. Monitoring revealed topsoil sealing subsoil which in turn sealed geologically deposited strata across all of the development area. Concrete foundations and numerous modern ceramic and plastic drains relating to the former cottages were noted in the southern end of the site.
No archaeological features or artefacts were revealed as a result of carrying out the monitoring.
