Testing of the site at Drinan took place in dry and bright conditions over two days on 24 and 25 September 2018. The proposed work involved the mechanical excavation of nine trenches running east to west across the site. On excavation it became apparent that under the topsoil the exposed material was a mix of infills containing modern debris. The infilling was evident throughout the site and up to a depth of 4.6m. According to a local commentator the site was infilled using material dug from the nearby M1 motorway in 2003/2004. Given the depth and volume of the modern infill the potential to impact upon any in situ archaeological material was determined to be negligible. No finds or features archaeological potential were noted throughout the course of the excavations.
