Five slit trenches (1-5) and three test pits (1-3) were monitored in advance of realignment works at the Balbutcher Lane Junction, Ballymun, Dublin 11. The junction is located at the intersection of Balbutcher Lane, Poppintree Park Lane West and Belclare View.
The slit trenches and test pits were excavated (up to a maximum depth of 2m) on the road take of the proposed realignment. Monitoring established that there is considerable made ground, consistent with road development, beneath the present road surface and around the existing junction.
No archaeological materials or features were revealed.
