A programme of pre-development test trenching was carried out at Sheephill at the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin 15. The immediate landscape has recently undergone development, as the construction of the Abbotstown Sports Campus continues.
A total of 17 trenches, measuring 750 linear metres, were excavated across the area over the course of two days. The testing follows on from an geophysical survey carried out by J.M. Leigh Surveys Ltd. during May 2018 (Licence 18R0074). The survey identified a potential burnt spread and evidence for the remains of a former field systems within the site.
Three pits were identified during testing at the north-western end of the site. One of these pits may be a trough from a burnt mound.
