A programme of archaeological monitoring was carried out on part (‘Field 4’) of the former Landsdowne/Old Wesley grounds, Kilgobbin, Co. Dublin. A previous programme of testing and assessment (McGlade 16E0197) did not identify any archaeological features, but nevertheless the site’s proximity to archaeological sites excavated in 2002, 2003 and 2014 (Margaret Gowan & Co. Belarmine; and McGlade 14E0339) suggested a strong likelihood of prehistoric material extending into this area.
No archaeological features were identified and the programme demonstrated that the development site has been heavily disturbed since the 1970s and more recent years, and contains no archaeological material. Heavy truncation of subsoil deposits was identified across the entire site. No further archaeological work is recommended here.
