Monitoring works were undertaken, at No. 8 Church Road, Dalkey, the site of the demolition of the rear extension of a single residential unit, and the construction of a new extension with attic conversion, site entrance, car parking, external store and associated site works. The site is located within the northern periphery of the zone of notification for the historic settlement of Dalkey, DU023-023. The historic mapping shows the area as a field containing quarry pits that remained undeveloped into the early 20th century.
Monitoring was undertaken over the course of two days in February 2018 during topsoil stripping in the front and rear gardens of the property. No archaeological features were present. As such, no further archaeological mitigation is deemed necessary in association with the development.
