Archaeological supervision of excavation of support posts for proposed replacement of wooden access steps on Scheduled Monument DOW009:002—Belvoir Motte—was carried out under licence from DfC:HED and in accordance with approved Scheduled Monument Consent. Hand excavation of 24 post-pits was carried out which indicated that this portion of the monument contained deposits of imported material which may have been part of the construction of the original steps in the early 1980s. No archaeological deposits were noted during monitoring works.
