Planning approval has been granted to Newry Mourne and Down District Council to install a footpath from the Moneyslane Road towards Deehommed Historic Graveyard as a right of way across an existing greenfield. The path will pass by a Scheduled monument (DOW035:500), an historic Chimney Stack associated with Industrial Heritage Site IHR03220:000:00, a 20th-century Flax Mill, with the graveyard itself being designated an archaeological monument (DOW035:025).

An archaeological evaluation carried out in December 2016 confirmed the existence of sub-surface archaeological remains associated with the Industrial Heritage site within the footprint of the proposed path.

Monitoring of topsoil stripping and fence-post excavation was carried out as part of planning conditions upon grant of planning and as a means of identifying any further archaeological/industrial heritage remains which may survive within the scheme boundaries.

Monitoring of topsoil removal for the path alignment confirmed the existence of floor surfaces and wall foundations associated with IHR0322:000:00 in line with those uncovered in 2016. As no further ground reduction beyond topsoil removal was necessitated, a photographic and measured survey was carried out in advance of their in-situ preservation. Any structural remains identified within the excavated post-pits were also recorded.
