Archaeological monitoring of Phase 1 development was carried out in relation to a proposed redevelopment of lands at and adjacent to ‘The Old Smokery’ Shore Road, and No. 2 Shore Road, Annalong, Co. Down.
Monitoring was carried out in response to condition of grant of planning which required for archaeological surveillance of ground works as the site is located within the area defined as Annalong Area of Archaeological potential.
Monitoring of excavation of foundation footings for a single dwelling along the western boundary of the site was carried out as part of Phase 1 works. No archaeological material was encountered during monitoring works at this stage of development, however the remainder of the imposed archaeological condition cannot be discharged until archaeological supervision of remaining foundation trench excavation is carried out upon recommencement of development at the site.
