An archaeological evaluation of the site was conducted ahead of the proposed construction of a residential development on lands at the former Downe Hospital Site, Killough Road, Downpatrick. The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 20 test trenches across the area of the development using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. The trenches were excavated through a mixture of hard surfaces and grass-covered topsoil. No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
