An archaeological evaluation was undertaken ahead of the construction of a proposed residential development (4 apartments, 14 townhouses, 2 semi-detached houses and 1 detached house) with associated site works and landscaping at 1, 3 and 5 Pound Hill, Dromore, BT25 1PX.
The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 7 test trenches across the development area using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. Topsoil was found to extend to a depth of 0.2-1.1m across the trenches. Topsoil was a mixture of a grey-brown silty loam, tree litter and stumps, and modern building rubble towards the south-east extent of the site, and grey-brown silty loam and modern building rubble to the north-west of the site. This was removed directly onto subsoil. The subsoil was an orange and grey banded clay.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
