This development consisted of the demolition of a single dwelling and the erection of a new dwelling; the archaeological conditions placed on the planning approval required an archaeological programme of works to be written, approved and executed onsite to test for the presence of any below ground archaeological material and to produce a building and fabric survey of the dwelling to be demolished as a building with a similar footprint was marked on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map.
A building fabric survey, supervised demolition and an archaeologically monitored test trench were completed on site between 6-8 March 2018. The results of the building fabric survey and supervised demolition showed evidence of an earlier stone, rubble and lime mortar constructed building which may have originally have been a 2-room single storey building. The archaeologically monitored test trench produced no archaeological material.
