Monitoring of groundworks at St Anne’s Hall, Townparks, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal was undertaken on 5, 12 and 13 June 2018. The development works entailed the demolition of all rear extensions, demolition of a substantial part of derelict house to the west of St Anne's Hall. The walls of the derelict house were removed down to balustrade height and the area within will be used as an outdoor amenity area. The overall size of the site is 0.14ha.
The development is within the zone of archaeological potential for Ballyshannon Historic Town (DG107-053) and in the vicinity of the Bastioned Fort, Church and Graveyard (DG107-053001, DG107-053004, DG107-053005). Groundworks took place to the rear of St Anne’s Hall and involved the construction of a retaining wall and site clearance work to the rear of the Sexton’s House. Both were monitored to the underlying natural substrate and revealed no material of an archaeological nature. Furthermore no archaeological features or finds were noted during the demolition of the existing Sexton’s House to balustrade height.
