An impact assessment including testing was carried out on behalf of Abbott Ireland, relating to a proposed expansion (Phase 2) of an existing development and in response to a condition of planning (Planning Ref. 18/51159).
Testing was carried out on 24 October 2018 using a 6-tonne Hitachi tracked excavator fitted with toothless grading bucket. Suitable locations for testing were constrained by ongoing Phase 1 works on the site and a large number of existing underground services. In total five test trenches were excavated, two in an area of a proposed new car park and three in an area of a proposed earthen bund.
The natural subsoil on the site varied from bright yellow to light grey silty clay at depths of between 0.25–0.8m below the sod level and no features or finds of archaeological interest were identified in any of the trenches.
