Turmeel 4 (Site 21) was identified during test trenching for the A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe Road Dualling Scheme.
It comprised an Early Neolithic rectangular house which measured 13.7m long and 6.9m wide. The structure had an internal division 4.3m from its north end, dividing the house into two parts. The south-west part had a number of internal features including pits, post- and stake-holes; the north-east part had no internal features. Externally, there were also several pits, post- and stake-holes which could be contemporary and related to the structure. Artefacts recovered during the excavation included much pottery, and also struck quartz, flint and a broken polished stone axe. Radiocarbon dates returned from the structure provided dates of 3950-3766 BC and 3781–3656 BC.
