An archaeological evaluation was undertaken ahead of the proposed construction of a dwelling on lands 46m north of 24 Glebe Road, Castlerock, Co. Derry. The assessment consisted of the excavation of four test trenches across the development site using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket under supervision. Topsoil varied across the site from 0.2-1m. For the most part this was removed onto naturally occurring subsoil and bedrock. The exception to this was the eastern end of Trench 3 which contained a dump of stone which filled a hollow between two areas of bedrock. Investigation of the stone dump revealed it to be 0.3-0.4m in depth and directly overlying naturally occurring subsoil. No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
