A licence was granted to undertake monitoring on the site in order to comply with the condition of planning permission. The site was inspected on 11 October 2018 to establish and record the buffer zone. The buffer zone consisted of Heras fencing along the line of the 20m buffer. No groundworks or storage of material had taken place within the buffer zone and in this regard is considered to satisfy the planning condition. Although the archaeologist was not on site during the removal of topsoil and the excavation of foundations, the foundations and any exposed ground were inspected. It was noted that subsoil remained over the majority of the site and that natural was only exposed at the base of the strip foundations. There was no requirement to reduce the overall site to natural subsoil and therefore any potential archaeology in these areas will remain in situ and be covered by subsoil and gravel. No archaeological features were noted either at the base of the foundation strips or the sections of same that were examined.
