An application to import landfill material into low-lying marginal land in the townlands of Ballymorisheen and Lyradane near Grenagh village led to a request for an archaeological impact assessment to include a test excavation to be undertaken. Fifteen test trenches were excavated over the area proposed for landfill. No features of archaeological significance were found. Features depicted as “Heelan`s Well” and “O`Callaghans Well” in the early OS maps were found to represent a natural spring.
