Clonfadda 1 was located on the proposed N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom Road Project (Lot 2). The site was situated in a pasture field on high ground on the edge of a small stream-cut valley
Four pits were excavated on the site, the most significant being a charcoal-production pit. The charcoal pit was sub-rectangular with rounded corners, measured 2.8m by 1.8m and was 0.21m deep with concave sides and a flat base which showed evidence of in situ burning. The pit had two fills; a charcoal-rich basal fill and a clayey upper fill.
The other pits were positioned from 0.8m to 4.8m away from the charcoal-production pit and may have been related, although there is no direct evidence of their association.
