A programme of archaeological monitoring was carried out for the development of a new school in the north-west end of Ennis. The site, currently in use as a school: Scoil Chríost Rí, bounds the River Fergus to the east, and Cloughleigh Road to the west. Prior to the development works, the existing school buildings were situated in the north of the site and a large playing field was situated in the south.

The archaeological potential of the site primarily related to the use of the river for milling. Milling is documented locally from the late medieval period, and a 19th-century French burr millstone is incorporated into a modern wall directly west of the site. The southern half of the site was not monitored due to an error by the main contractor. The northern half was fully monitored and no archaeological material was identified. No further work is recommended on the site.
