Pre-development test trenching was carried out in response to archaeological planning conditions imposed upon grant of planning approval for a housing development located at Clendinning Drive, Mahon Road.
Testing was carried out across the entire development area, however construction will be carried out on a phased basis therefore this report outlines the results of test trenching within Phase 1 development.
A total of 4 test trenches each 60m long were excavated across Phase 1. Trenching revealed that this portion of the site had been greatly disturbed during construction of the former army base which once occupied the site and no archaeological material was uncovered. As such it is recommended that Phase 1 works be allowed to continue with no further archaeological involvement.
