Due to the potential for archaeological remains being present, the advance ground investigation (GI) works for the Newry Southern Relief Road route options were archaeologically monitored. A total of 19 GI pits were monitored, this included an additional GI pit (TP25) which was not included in the Written Scheme of Investigation. Six proposed GI pits could not be undertaken due to access issues. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified in any of the monitored GI pits.
