Archaeological monitoring of ground works associated with construction of a warehouse distribution centre located at Doagh Road, Newtownabbey was carried out in response to an archaeological planning condition.
Supervision of ground reduction works revealed that the area of the proposed development within which the proposed warehouse building, its car parking and hard standing areas, appear to have undergone previous ground disturbance associated with the location within the site boundaries of a previous church building and its infrastructure, while the area of a proposed attenuation system to the southeast had remained largely undisturbed green space.
No archaeological remains were identified during supervision of ground works. It is therefore recommended that no further archaeological works are required.
