Monitoring and excavation took place between 2-5 July 2018. During monitoring the remains of a building with a cobbled yard/alley were discovered at the centre of the existing car park. The building consisted of two long potential gable walls at the east and west of the stripped area, and a northern wall respecting a possible yard at the rear of the building. There was also an internal dividing wall running north-south within the confines of the structure.
The building uncovered is likely to have been a small domestic building (as indicated by the artefacts uncovered from the area) which later took on a small commercial use. The building from the 1850s to the 1880s housed people who worked at trades associated with coach building. As time progressed the area was redeveloped as Belfast grew, one half of the lane was lost leaving only the even numbered buildings. These buildings from 1918 to 1960 housed small businesses until they were demolished to make way for Londonderry House.
