An archaeological evaluation was undertaken ahead of the proposed construction of a single residential dwelling on lands to the rear of 52 Skerry East Road, Newtowncrommelin.

Two test trenches were excavated by mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket and under strict archaeological supervision. The depths of the trenches varied slightly across the site ranging from 0.35–0.4m. In both trenches, the topsoil was removed onto naturally occurring subsoil which was an orange glacial till. Agricultural furrows and stone drains were noted extending across the trenches in a northwest-southeast direction.

No archaeological deposits were identified within either trench.
