An archaeological evaluation was undertaken ahead of the proposed construction of a single residential dwelling on lands to the rear of 52 Skerry East Road, Newtowncrommelin.
Two test trenches were excavated by mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket and under strict archaeological supervision. The depths of the trenches varied slightly across the site ranging from 0.35-0.4m. In both trenches, the topsoil was removed onto naturally occurring subsoil which was an orange glacial till. Agricultural furrows and stone drains were noted extending across the trenches in a northwest-southeast direction.
No archaeological deposits were identified within either trench.
