Proposal of the re-development of the site of the former Portrush railway station building at 16 Eglinton Street, Portrush led to an archaeological evaluation which consisted of the excavation of two trenches across the construction area of the site using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. The depths of the trenches varied across the site due to previous works carried out in relation to the now-demolished railway. The original train line would have continued into the old station and both train lines were backfilled after use. This backfilling was evident in the rubbish and rubble fill removed from the trenches. To the west of Trench 2 a brick wall could be seen cutting across the route of the former railway line which would suggest it was built after the line was shortened as part of the new building in that area.
Nothing of archaeological significance was found upon the removal of fill in this area. No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
