Nine test trenches were excavated outside of the boundary wall for the sawmill, known as God’s Cottage, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow.

Trenches were excavated at the footprint of the percolation area which will be positioned to the southwest of the sawmill buildings and were also excavated along the line of the effluent pipe which will run parallel to and 1m from the western boundary wall of the sawmill. Out of the nine test trenches the ground in eight of them was completely disturbed and no cultural layers or archaeological features associated with the Ecclesiastical complex were exposed. The trench perpendicular to the entrance of the sawmill was the best preserved and a cultural layer which contained slag was exposed at 0.8m below the surface of the ground.

No features of archaeological significance were exposed beneath this layer.
