The Phase 3 testing (Trenches 12 – 16 & 21) was undertaken in advance of insertion of new surface-drainage pipes.The testing identified an overburden of post-medieval soil introduced into the area. The only features were some pits, one (in Trench 15) almost at the base of the trench, cut into the naturally deposited subsoil and disturbed by tree roots. Trench 21 also had some pits, one possibly just a tree bole and in the base of the trench part of one articulated skeleton was exposed.
