Pre-planning test trenching was undertaken in five locations including in the townlands of Cavankilgreen, Ballynany, Drumaslghy, Loughans and Derryhubbert south.

At Cavankilgreen a total of seven test trenches were excavated on the site, comprising 380m². A few linear features (agricultural drains and some plough scars) were observed in the test trenches. These were investigated by means of section and sondage and all proved to be modern in date.

Ballynany:  Three test trenches were excavated on the site, comprising 140m². Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.

Drumaslaghy: Three test trenches were excavated on the site, comprising 140m². Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.

Loughans: Four test trenches were excavated on the site, comprising 240m².  Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.

Derryhubbert South: Four test trenches were excavated on the site, comprising 240m². Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
