Testing within the footprint of a proposed development at Killoran Townland was undertaken on the site in order to fulfil a request for further information by Tipperary County Council. The test trenches were positioned in locations which would undergo most ground disturbance at the construction stage (i.e. within the footprint of the buildings and infrastructure). Nineteen test trenches were excavated on the site across the footprint of the proposed buildings. All trenches were excavated parallel to each other apart from Trenches 13 and 14 which were excavated perpendicular in order to incorporate the suspected remains of the fulacht fiadh (Killoran 28). Natural subsoil was exposed at the base of all of the trenches and numerous linear furrow-like features were evident in Field 1, one of which produced modern crockery. A number of other potential archaeological features were exposed in Fields 2 and 3, with the remains of a previously known burnt spread (Killoran 28, now F12), exposed in Trench 13. Trench 12, Field 2 also produced evidence of a number of cut features including a charcoal-rich feature and a ditch of unknown date.
