A percolation test pit and five boreholes in the south-west corner of the hilltop enclosure at the Rock of Cashel were cut in 2017 to assess the impact of building a new visitor facility. Testing and monitored service trenching in 2016 found that most of the material overlying bedrock is recent fill, spoil from works carried out in the 20th century, and perhaps in the 19th century, including archaeological excavations.
Works in 2017 were monitored. Bone recovered from the percolation pit included human remains, but all fragmentary and ex situ. There was no suggestion of burials in this corner of the site.
