Stage (iii) archaeological excavation was carried out at Sheerevagh 3 in advance of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development, Co. Sligo. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing and was assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services (Registration Number E4627).
Sheerevagh 3 consisted of five burnt mounds with a number of burnt mound spreads and isolated pits within a localised area. It is possible that at least two phases of activity are present on site. Mound B and all the small spreads of burnt mound material were found below the peat only. Mound A had layers that were present above and below the natural peat. Three of the mounds exist above the peat only.
