Stage (iii) archaeological excavation was carried out at Carrownagark 3 - 6 in advance of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development, Co. Sligo. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing and was assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services (Registration Number E4627).

At the southern extent of Carrownagark 3 four pits, one post-hole and an irregular charcoal-rich spread were identified. Prehistoric lithics were retrieved from three of the pits while prehistoric pottery was uncovered from one of the pits.

Carrownagark 4, 5 consisted of a large circular palisaded enclosure ditch with a south-eastern entrance gap and a large figure-of-eight post structure located in the interior. A small ring barrow truncated the palisade at the north-west. Two further post structures, a post alignment/structure and a slot trench structure were located externally to the palisaded enclosure along with several pits, post-holes and a spread of material. A small lithic assemblage was recovered from the various elements of this site along with 12 glass beads which were associated with the ring barrow.

At the northern extent of the excavation one large pit, one post-hole and three possible shallow pits were identified at Carrownagark 6 with charred seeds and chert debitage recovered from the large pit.
