Stage (iii) archaeological excavation was carried out at Carrownagark 2 in advance of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development, Co. Sligo. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing and was assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services (Registration Number E4627).
Eight post-holes, three pits and one small spread were uncovered at Carrownagark 2. Seven of the post-holes form a possible circular structure. Metallurgical waste found in two of the pits suggests that Carrownagark 2 could be interpreted as evidence for iron smithing.
