Monitoring of the southernmost 300m of the groundworks for the construction of a forest access road was required. The main part of the work was carried out on 29/11/2016. The southernmost stretch of the road runs c.11m from a burial mound. An existing access road was being upgraded. No further excavation was carried out on the western side of the existing roadway, so as not to impact on the monument. There is already a fence on the west side of the access road, and this was left undisturbed. This southernmost, and most sensitive stretch, was very lightly stripped to a depth of 0.1 - 0.3m on 31/1/2017, under an extension to the original licence. The monitor disclosed no material of an archaeological nature.
