The site at Carrigans was discovered following test excavation of Phase 3 of the N2 Monaghan to Emyvale Road Realignment (17E0310). The site consisted of 2 pits filled with burnt mound material (C03, 0.81m north-east/south/west x 0.6m x 0.17m deep; C.05, 1.62m east-west x 1.18m x 0.12m deep). A radiocarbon date of 1259-1046 cal. BC was returned from a piece of hazel charcoal in the fill of the larger pit.
